Some of the most enjoyable pauses on an Albania campervan trip happen away from the sea. Think of a lane lined with old houses, coffee beside a lake or an afternoon watching a river flow past. Berat, Lake Ohrid and Përmet offer three different reasons to head inland. Choose the place that fits your interests and your existing route; these are separate options, not a ready-made loop.
Three places to put on your map
Berat: for history and wandering
In Berat, white houses climb the slopes above the Osum River. The historic neighbourhoods of Mangalem and Gorica make a lovely starting point for exploring on foot. Look across the water, then turn into the lanes for a closer view of the buildings. Berat’s historic centre forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Above town, the castle area is still inhabited, so you are visiting a living neighbourhood as well as a historic place. Leave time for the climb and a pause along the way. Campervan tip: choose parking suitable for your vehicle, check signs and continue on foot. Comfortable shoes help on the uphill, cobbled streets.
Lake Ohrid: for lakeside time
On Albania’s side of Lake Ohrid, Lin and Pogradec offer different ways to enjoy the shore. Lin sits on a peninsula, with village lanes and views across the water. Pogradec suits a waterfront stroll and a café stop. The Albanian part of the Ohrid region belongs to a shared UNESCO World Heritage site.
If you have room in your plans, Drilon adds spring-fed channels and greenery near Tushemisht. Keep these as distinct stops, with time to enjoy whichever you choose. Campervan tip: check access and turning space before entering village lanes. Park appropriately and walk the last stretch rather than following a navigation pin into an uncertain space.

Përmet: for river-valley scenery
Përmet sits in the Vjosa valley, with mountains shaping the view beyond town. It is a good choice when you want a town stop with river scenery close by: take a walk, stop for lunch and leave time simply to look around. The appeal is having fewer plans for the afternoon.
For a separate outing, the stone arch of Kadiu Bridge near Bënja stands over the Lengarica, beside the thermal-spring area. Treat it as an optional excursion and confirm current access before leaving Përmet. Campervan tip: check the access road and visitor parking, and arrange your overnight stop separately. A scenic parking place does not establish permission to camp.

| Choose | Come for | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Berat | Historic streets | Uphill walking |
| Lake Ohrid | Villages and water | Separate lakeside stops |
| Përmet | Town and river scenery | Check excursion access |
Two quick planning questions
Can I combine all three?
Yes, as part of a longer journey with enough time between destinations. For a short holiday, start with the stop that fits your route best. Check the actual roads and allow more time than navigation alone suggests. Use the map for orientation, then plan your driving route separately.
Where can I stay overnight?
Arrange a campsite or another explicitly permitted overnight place, and confirm arrival arrangements with the host. Daytime visitor parking and overnight stays are different questions. Our overnight-parking guide explains what to check.
Add one inland stop and give it room in the day. For more planning help, read our broader Albania itinerary, check overnight options and explore the WildGoat campervan fleet.
